Basic Mode
The standard workflow for using Intervu in interviews.
Overview
Basic Mode is thedefault operation mode. When the interviewer speaks, Intervu automatically transcribes and generates suggested answers.
Starting an Interview
1. Configure Settings (One-Time)
Before your first interview:
- Click the Settings (gear) icon
- Configure audio devices (see Audio Devices)
- Set up STT endpoint (see STT Endpoint)
- Set up LLM endpoint (see LLM Endpoint)
- Add your resume (see Resume & Prompt)
- Test both connections
2. Before Each Interview
- Open Intervu
- Verify both audio level meters show activity
- Check your resume is up to date
- Position the window where it won't obstruct your view
3. StartListening
- Click the Microphone button (or press
Ctrl+Shift+Hto toggle visibility) - The app starts capturing audio immediately
- Speak a test phrase to verify mic is working
- You should see your words appear in the transcript
During the Interview
Transcript Panel
The left panel shows real-time transcription:
[Interviewer] Tell me about your experience with React.

[Interviewer] Can you describe a challenging project?- Blue text: Interviewer's speech
- White text: Your speech
Answer Panel
The right panel shows generated answers:
Each answer card contains:
- The question (title)
- The suggested answer (body)
- Thumbs up/down buttons
Using Suggested Answers
- Read the suggested answer while it streams in
- Use key points to structure your response
- Adapt the answer to your own words
- Rate the answer quality (thumbs up/down)
Don't ReadWord-for-Word
Use suggested answers as a guide. Interviewers can tell when you're reading. Adapt the content to your own voice.
Controlling Generation
Regenerating an Answer
If you want a different answer:
- Click the Regenerate button on the answer card
- A new answer will be generated with the same question
Cancelling Generation
To stop an answer mid-generation:
- Click the Stop button during streaming
- The current answer is marked as cancelled
Pausing Listening
- Click the Microphone button again
- Audio capture stops
- Click again to resume

After the Interview
Review Your Session
- Scroll through the transcript
- Review answer cards
- Note which answers were helpful
Clear History
To start fresh:
- Click theClear button (trash icon)
- Confirm the action
- Transcript and answer history are cleared
Settings Persistence
Your settings are automatically saved:
- Audio device selections
- STT/LLM endpoints
- Resume and system prompt
- Advanced settings
Best Practices
Position Your Window
- Place Intervu where you can glance at it naturally
- Avoid obvious eye movement to the window
- Use the compact mode if available
Speaking Naturally
- Maintain normal conversational pace
- Don't wait for transcription before responding
- Use the suggestions as talking points
Rating Answers
- Rate consistently
- Don't rate every answer — only those notably good or bad
- This helps future suggestions improve
Handling Delays
If answers are slow:
- Use the interviewer's speaking time to think
- Have a few practiced stories ready
- Use filler phrases while waiting: "That's a great question..."
Common Scenarios
Question Unrelated to Your Resume
The LLM will still try to help but may give generic answers:
- Use it as a starting point
- Add your own specific examples
- Rate down to indicate preference
Technical Question
Generated answers typically include:
- Technical explanation
- Your relevant experience
- Best practices
Behavioral Question
Generated answers follow a narrative structure:
- Context from your resume
- Specific examples
- Outcomes and learnings
